Rest and Relaxation... and Religion?
The Hierophant and the Four of Swords inspire a Tarot poem and reading for a commenter.
Welcome back to WiggleStick: a playful synonym for “divining rod” that, today, helps
with the question they volunteered on a previous WiggleStick poem!Huge thanks to
for translating these poems into something wonderful and weird and totally TikTok worthy!I need more questions! if you’d like a bespoke poem and reading of your own…
Four Of Swords
Rest, relaxation, meditation, contemplation, recuperation
The Hierophant
Spiritual wisdom, religious beliefs, conformity, tradition, institutions
Sorry to hear that the winds turned against you.
It’s ok, if you need one, to take a short rest, too.
Let yourself gently relax, turn within,
And plan for the next place to claim your own win.Who can you turn to for help and advice?
What institutions can boost what you write?
There’s spiritual wisdom to turn to for now:
Suffering’s just what attachment endows.
I believe it was my friend Meg from Magical Reawakening who once told me the story that soldiers in the crusades would spend time building their own coffins before going off to war. They constructed them by hand, and then lay inside, imagining what it might be like to die, but resolving to fight their best anyway.
The lore she shared was that the Four of Swords depicts just such a scene.
Yes it is a card of relaxation and recuperation, which you absolutely deserve, but perhaps there is an opportunity here for you to plan for your next adventure and make peace with the fact that it might end in a little death as well. (Only in order to succeed in the long run! Wasn’t Harry freakin’ Potter rejected hundreds of times?)
And as for similarities between the cards, there’s really only one thing that I’m noticing they have in common. They’re both highly religious, both apparently taking place inside churches.
In what ways might you lean in to spirituality for support and comfort during this time?
As you take the Four’s advice and get quiet, keep an eye out for synchronicities that come with a message or a lesson. God I hate to say this to someone grieving a recent setback, but whenever you’re ready, maybe there’s something you’re meant to learn from the whole encounter that is important to your Higher Self’s matriculation from the chrysalis of mere matter to the luminous realm of Pure Being.
Sounds pretty cool, eh?
Ok, that’s my spiritual tradition. I can’t really say what might be the right wisdom for you without knowing what you believe. But perhaps its a good idea to explore that part of life for a moment.
Good luck!

Of course! Anyone else who wants a poem reading…
And why not sign up for a cute lil poem a day?
That bit about crusade knights lying in their coffins blew my mind open to the meanings of the 4oS! What a clue, thank u!
After two months I can say a rest was what I needed, and the call to my spiritual practice has never felt louder. Thank you for the insight!
